Sue Soshu Tanto
Probably Muromachi period.
A very beautiful old tanto, probably Sue Soshu Odawara in origin. Comprised of itame, mokume, and O-hada, with bright nioi, sunagashi, mitsu mune (3 sided mune), bo-hi extending all the way into the nakago. As with most tanto of this period there are some ware and O-hada, there is one small fukure and there is a very small nick in the blade that is very hard to see but does not detract from the blade, it was thought best to leave the small nick in the blade rather than remove the material - preservation of metal is key when restoring an old blade like this.
Reasonably priced at $1,850.00 CDN funds, less than the cost of restoration. A very nice old tanto with so much to study, this blade will not disappoint!
