NTHK Papers attributing to Echizen Shigetaka

Mumei, NTHK papers to Echizen Shigetaka

29,75inches, ubu

New shirasaya, new solid silver Habaki

The first generation Shigetaka was born in the town of Iida, Sunshu Province, he then moved to Mino and became a student of Kanenori. Later, both he and Kanenori moved to Echizen Province. Shigetaka (1st) received the title "Harima Daijo", and this title remained for the 3 generations. In all, 11 generations of Shigetaka smiths worked and lived in Echizen until the end of the Edo period, they were one of the most prosperous lines of smiths to work in Echizen.
This powerful blade is 29.75 inches long with bo-hi and is in perfect polish. The new habaki is solid silver, and the shirasaya is new by John Tirado. Considering it's length and size, people are quite amazed at how light and responsive this sword is.

This sword is absolutely stunning, the person who buys this will be very happy with this sword.

NOTE - The shinsa team attributed this to Shinshinto Shigetaka, but myself, and several other more experienced collectors, are pretty sure this is a Shinto period sword. This sword was submitted when it wasn't in full polish, so perhaps there was some confusion on the appraisal. The shape of this sword is typical Kanbun Shinto, and the activity in this blade isnt typical of Shinshinto work unless it was made by a really good quality smith. I may send this blade to the NBTHK for papers, or I may just hold onto it the way it is. Bottom line is that it is a very nice blade.
