ABOUT ME

My name is Louis Skebo. I have been collecting Japaneseswords and antiques for about 13 years. In the last few years, I have become more serious with respect to my collection. I have started this website as a venue to buy/trade and sell Japanese swords as they are very hard to find, and by doing this I make more contacts within the collecting community.

CONSIGNMENTS, BUYING AND SELLING.

For my personal collection I am currently buying:

All types of yari and pole arms
Odd shaped blades
High quality Shinshinto swords.
Also buying complete collections and estates.

I am happy to consign items for people whom I know and trust, and who are trusted by this small community that we are a part of. Many collectors, like myself are finding themselves with blades that they admire, and others that they are willing to part with, this site can be thier venue as well. I charge 10 percent for consignments with a minimum of $250.00 to a maximum of $600.00. In the event a very valuable sword is consigned, I can personally deliver the sword anywhere in the world if you would like.

INSPECTION PERIOD

Anything purchased from me will have an inspection period of 7 days. If you are not satisfied, then contact me and send the blade back. I will refund your money less any expenses that I have incurred. If the blade comes back and it is damaged in any way (scratched, chiped, whatever), then I'm sorry but I'll send the blade back to you. Any costs associated with the sale are the buyers responsibility, that includes shipping, duty, taxes, etc. unless otherwise specified. Sometimes I pay for shipping as I am pretty easy to deal with. Anything that is being returned to me must be shipped with insurance, and by the quickest and safest method possible - within reason of course.

SHIPPING

To make transactions simpler for myself and my customers, I now have a post office box in the USA. I ship and receive 95 percent of the swords from this address as it eliminates all International Customs nightmares, and I can now insure items up to $50,000USD. I can still ship via UPS and FEDEX within the USA if you prefer, I would just ship from their depot's in NY. When shipping your valuable sword, please package it very well. I ship swords in "carpet tubes", the tube that carpet is wrapped up around. It is very hard and can really stand up to the vigours of cross country shipping. I also, remove the kozuka/kogatana from the saya pocket as shipping can crack the lacquer when pressure is exerted on the kozuka. I do not recommend shipping swords in triangular shipping boxes, they are of cheap construction and get crushed easliy as heavier boxes can be piled on top of them. If it is just a bare blade for restoration, please wrap the blade in a paper saya and fix the blade to a board the full length of the blade, this will keep the blade from poking out the end of the box or tube. Everything I ship is sent "registered" mail and insured for the full value of the item, unless the customer requests something else. Shipping registered allows for complete tracking and accountability from the time the package leaves my hands until it arrives in the hands of the customer. Shipping usually takes between 3-6 days worldwide.

CUSTOMERS COMMENTS

Katana Signed "Nagamitsu" (gallery section) and Peony Fuchi "I have placed two orders with Louis of japaneseswordcollector.com in the last several months, one for a fuchi and the other for a katana. Both times the service was fast and friendly and the delivery time was about as fast as it gets (especially for an international transaction). The excellent photography on the site leaves little doubt as to what you are going to receive before making a purchase and the items "in person" have met all of my expectations. Louis is knowledgeable and responds to your questions quickly and he actually answers your questions, which one would expect but I have found to not always be the case when buying on the web. I highly recommend this site as a place to obtain high quality goods at very reasonable prices with excellent service." Ted Slawski-collector Louis Comments: Thanks very much Ted. I knew you would love that blade - it is a true samurai sword!

Mumei Tanto sent arrived for full polish, habaki, and shirasaya

"When I decided to have my little Shinshinto tanto polished, I decided that I was not going to envy the person I commission to do the work for me. With a nagasa of only 5 inches and a nakago of 2 1/2 inches I knew this was going to be no mean feet and a difficult job to say the least. I am very happy to report that my choice in togi-shi, Louis Skebo has resulted in a beautiful little blade with an excellent finish and crisp straight lines without any compromise of shape. Louis has totally retained the original sugata whilst also retaining as "much meat" as possible which is always a major concern. Added to this. Louis also produced an excellent little Shirasaya and Habaki for the tanto rounding if off a very nice little package that at one stage I was contemplating on selling after some study. It now holds a place of pride in my collection. I am proud to be able to recommend Louis for any of the work I have mentioned here and will myself be sending him swords for polish, habaki and shirasaya in the future. I think repeat work is as good a recommendation as one can hope for."

Rich Turner Perth, Western Australia. Louis Comments: Thank you very much Rich, as small and hard to handle as it was, I really enjoyed watching this beautiful blade return to its former glory. Enjoy!
